Former Champions Highlight Quail Ridge Classic Field
The 8th Annual Quail Ridge Classic Golf Tournament kicks off this weekend and three former champions lead the field of challengers looking to take home the title. 2025 Champion Steve Hamby, who recently won the 2026 Brick Capital in late June, is on hand to defend his title and will have to fight off former winners Brad McDougald and 3-time champion Jonathan Hockaday if he is to win his 2nd straight Quail Ridge Classic.
The long-hitting Hamby, of Coats, who won last year in a shootout with Kyle Wesolowski and the recent Brick title in a playoff over Carson Lanier, heads the list of potential winners in this years’ event, but will have plenty of talented players to contend with.
McDougald got his win in 2022 and has been a contender in local events for the last 10 years. His game seems well-suited for the Quail Ridge layout and if he controls his putter over the weekend should be in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
Hockaday, the only multiple winner of the event, won the QR Classic in 2019, 2020, 2023 as well as the 2025 Brick Capital. Hockaday comes into the event playing well after a recent 63 on the par 72 Quail Ridge layout and a recent win in the Presidents Cup at Carolina Lakes, and certainly has the experience to contend once again.
The field of 120 golfers will play Saturday and Sunday with players flighted after the opening round.
